Labour Party planning to launch their own Glastonbury-inspired festival?
 Add to favorites

The Labour Party are reportedly planning to hold their own Glastonbury-inspired music festival in London this summer.

After leader Jeremy Corbyn pulled one of the biggest crowds of the weekend for his emotive speech from the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury 2017 (where chants of ‘oh, Jeremy Corbyn’ to the tune of The White Stripes’ ‘Seven Nation Army’ became a definitive feature of the festival), now Labour are looking to stage an event of their own.

As The Sun reports, they’re looking to capitalise on the ‘youthquake’ that saw them swing a shock election result, and stage a huge outdoor concert for 10,000 people in North London.

A Labour spokesman added: “We are exploring options for ways to continue to open up politics to a wider audience and spread Labour’s message about how we can build a society that works for the many, not the few.”

In terms of potential performers, the likes of Rag N’ Bone Man, Clean Bandit, and a great number of grime artists have been vocal supporters of Corbyn.

The ‘#grime4corbyn‘ campaign followed in the wake of the likes of JME endorsing the Labour leader – even going as far to meet with Corbyn this weekend to discuss how to encourage young voters to get involved. Not only that, Novelist, Stormzy and UK rapper Akala also lent Corbyn their support – before he was added to the line-up of Boy Better Know on Wikipedia.

Jeremy Corbyn is a nominee for Hero Of The Year

This comes after last summer saw the Conservative Party attempt to launch a festival of their own.

Mid Norfolk MP George Freeman was credited with the idea, the aim of which is said to be increasing the party’s grassroots support.

“Why should the left have all the fun at festivals?” Freeman tweeted in July, along various photos of festival tents, flags and food trucks. “We need a cultural revival of grassroots Conservatism: DM me to join #ConservativeIdeasFest”.

One of the food trucks that were pictured however, hit back – slamming the event as a ‘Tory-self-promotional-circle-jerk’.
