Bon Iver is quite angry about Bruno Mars’ Grammy wins
 Add to favorites

Bon Iver has hit out at Bruno Mars for sweeping the Grammys last night and taking home all six of the awards he was nominated for.

Mars was the true victor of the evening, where he won Album of the Year, Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Best R&B Performance, Best R&B Song, and Best R&B Album.

However, Grammy winning alumni Justin Vernon was less than pleased with the news.

“Absolutely NO offence to Mr Mars, but you absolutely have to be shitting me,” he wrote on Twitter. “While some awesome musicians do win, what is WINNING?”

He added:”To be factual, Mr Mars made a name in the INDUSTRY by making hits OUT of hits of yesteryear. SO… no real need to be mad, even, at the Grammies. SZA? KENDRICK?

“I’d say move on from this shit show. Felt like a Democratic Party Party, not R’n’Roll.”

He also took aim at Recording Academy President Neil Portnow’s comments about the lack of female winners at the awards.

The Grammies are for the music Industry. Music, itself, is for everywhere else and everyone else. Good to remember.

scanning headlines after playing Mexico City last night (holy shit did we feel at home… Unbeelievable city) Looks like Grammies are still something serious musicians should not take seriously !

To be factual, Mr Mars made a name in the INDUSTRY by making hits OUT of hits of yesteryear (see: https://t.co/pnZWXdQD3L)

SO… no real need to be mad, even, at the Grammies. SZA? KENDRICK?

I’d say move on from this shit show.

Not being clever, but man, hard to listen to a music JUST because it came out in this particular year. I do, and I think its important, but hard to make a list of music that changed me this year, without including a bunch of music from people who are dead or gone https://t.co/RT7CGeoZTq

Responding to the lack of female winners, Portnow said: “It has to begin with… women who have the creativity in their hearts and souls, who want to be musicians, who want to be engineers, producers, and want to be part of the industry on the executive level…

“[They need] to step up because I think they would be welcome.”
