Elton John teases “special announcement” about his “future”
 Add to favorites

Elton John is set to make a big announcement about his “future” later today (January 24).

The legendary performer has teased a public announcement, with press invited to events in New York and London. The announcement is coming at 9.30 PT / 12.30 ET / 17.30 GMT and will be streamed live on YouTube.

Tabloid reports have speculated that John will announce his “final” world tour at the event, although this hasn’t been confirmed.

Earlier this week, an augmented reality experience launched at London’s Kings Cross Station where fans could sit at the piano and play a song with a hologram of Elton. See footage of that in the video below.

A wrinkle in time. Past meets present.

Elton currently has shows at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, as part of his residency at the venue, running from February to May.

Last April, John cancelled a series of live dates after a “harmful and unusual bacterial infection” resulted in the singer being taken to intensive care.

“Elton must never stop performing,” John’s husband David Furnish told Music Week last year.

“Some people relish the idea of a retirement where they do nothing [but] for Elton that would be purgatory.”

Furnish added: “I think given our commitments to our kids and our family – and now our boys are nearly seven and five and at that point where they need you present more than ever – it’s important we’re there to support them. So that will have an impact on what we do.”
