Tyler, the Creator has claimed in a new interview that “everyone hated” his third studio album, ‘Cherry Bomb’.

The artist offered the opinion during a rare on-camera interview which was self-released on his YouTube channel earlier today (January 22). Directed by Tyler under his Wolf Haley alias, the 58-minute interview sees Tyler sit down with The Carmichael Show‘s Jerrod Carmichael to talk music.

In the interview, Tyler mostly discusses the making of his most recent album ‘Flower Boy’, which has been nominated for Best Rap Album at the Grammys.

Revealing that he wrote ‘Glitter’ for Justin Bieber (“I thought he would be so cool doing that, but he didn’t ever return the call, so I was just like: ‘Fuck it, I’ll write and just make it cool'”), Tyler also compared the creative process of 2015’s ‘Cherry Bomb’ to that of ‘Flower Boy’.

“For ‘Cherry Bomb’, I purposely was like ‘I don’t wanna get personal at all,’ like, ‘I’m just gonna make songs,'” he said. “And in [‘Flower Boy’], I was like, ‘Alright, let me write down every feeling.'”

Later in the interview, Tyler reflected on ‘Cherry Bomb’ further, quipping: “Everyone hated it. Except for, like, real music lovers who cares about drums. Like, I opened a rap album with a rock song.”

Back in July, Tyler’s guest appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert saw the rapper grab the host’s backside as he entered the studio.
