Three members of The Smiths will reunite on stage later this year for a series of concerts that will showcase a classical re-imagining of the iconic Manchester band.

Former Smiths drummer Mike Joyce, bassist Andy Rourke and second guitarist Craig Gannon will debut ‘Classically Smiths’ this summer – with the three joined by the Manchester Camerata Orchestra for shows in London, Manchester, and Edinburgh before a full UK tour.

Manchester Camerata are known for their genre-spanning work, having previously worked on the Hacienda Classical concerts, which saw them receiving rave reviews as they provided a unique take on iconic 90s rave tunes.

Describing the shows, Mike Joyce told the Manchester Evening News: “I’m massively excited to be playing with Andy and Craig again, but introducing a full orchestra into the mix takes this to another level.

“There’ll be Smiths classics in the set, but I can’t wait to play the songs that have never been heard live before.

“With the addition of an orchestra, it will sound as totally unique as it will immense. I’m really looking forward to fans being able to hear the songs in a way they’ve never been heard before, either on record or live. On the stage, or out front, this is going to be quite an experience for us all.”

Songs expected to be in line for an orchestral twist include ‘The Boy With The Thorn In His Side’, ‘A Rush And A Push And The Land Is Ours’ and ‘Please, Please, Please Let Me Get What I Want’.

The confirmed dates are as below, and you can buy tickets here from Friday January 26.
