Lorde says she’s already started thinking about next album and teases piano-based tracks

The pop star released her second album 'Melodrama' last year

Lorde has told fans that she is already thinking about the contents of her third album and teased the possibility of some piano-based tracks.

The pop star’s second album, ‘Melodrama‘, was released in June 2017. It featured piano on tracks like ‘Liability’ and ‘Writer In The Dark’, with producer Jack Antonoff playing the instrument on the record.

In a newsletter sent to fans this week, Lorde suggested the follow-up could see her taking over piano duties. “I haven’t started properly on the next record yet, and I’m not sure how long it’ll be,” she wrote. “But I’ve been teaching myself how to play piano, and here and there little bits come out.

“I think this next one will probably be born around the piano in my house, me and my friends, keeping it simple… But know that for now I’m happy here at home, living quietly and simply, eating toast, going for walks, swimming. And you’ll hear all about it soon enough.”

The missive also saw the musician look back on her latest world tour, recalling that she felt “caught in an overwhelming mix of relief, gratitude, mourning, elation, and exhaustion” now it had come to an end.

Reflecting on the shows, she said: “I’ve never felt richer than in those moments with you, all of us heaving to Green Light, or singing Writer [in the Dark] together, or Supercut. The way you took this record and made it yours will be a highlight of my life forever.” She concluded by thanking her fans for “continuing to change my life, year after year; for living inside the work that I make; for always being ready for what’s round the corner.”

Earlier this month, Lorde accused Kanye West and Kid Cudi of “stealing” the idea of using a floating box as part of their stage production. The star’s ‘Melodrama’ tour saw her perform part of the show from within the box, with dancers also using the space within their choreography.

West and Cudi also used a similar design when they made their live debut as Kid See Ghosts at Tyler, The Creator’s Camp Flog Gnaw festival in Los Angeles. Neither have commented on Lorde’s claims.
