Mark Kelly suffered broken ribs and injuries to his wrist and head

Marillion keyboard player Mark Kelly missed the band’s show in Essen, Germany last night (November 25) after being hit by a truck and subsequently hospitalised.

Kelly was out jogging when the incident took place, and suffered four broken ribs, damage to his wrist and cuts to his head.

Despite missing a gig while recovering, Kelly is set to return for the band’s gig tonight (November 26), also at Essen’s Colosseum venue.

The band revealed the news on social media, saying: “We collectively took the decision that ‘the show must go on’ and put together a half acoustic/half electric show with our friend Riccardo on keys for the last few songs.

“Cancelling was never an option for us and we hope that those of you who were there enjoyed the show. Rest assured that Mark will be back on stage for the next show and for the rest of the tour. Thanks to everyone for their understanding and Mark thanks everyone for their best wishes.”

As you will see in the video below, the hospital wanted to keep him in overnight for observation. Along with the post, Kelly posted a personal video message to fans, updating them on his situation and promising a swift return.

Hi everyone, you’ve probably heard by now that I had a little bit of an accident yesterday while I was out jogging. I had a collision with a truck and broke four ribs and slight damage to my wrist and spent a bit of time in hosptial,” he said.

“I won’t be there tonight, I hope you have a great evening and don’t forget to wish Steve Rothery [guitarist] a happy birthday; it’s his birthday today. I’ll be back tomorrow for tomorrow night’s show.”

Marillion will be back in the UK this time next year, with a series of dates with a live orchestra. For the full dates, and tickets, click here.
