Dave Grohl as you've never heard him before...

A track recorded by Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl in 1985 whilst a drummer in punk band ‘Mission Impossible’ has emerged online.

As reported on Louder Sound, the track – ‘Now I’m Alone’ – appeared after it was announced that it would feature on the soundtrack to a new punk documentary, Salad Days: A Decade of Punk. The film explores the DIY punk scene in Washington between 1980 and 1990.

You can listen to the track here:

Speaking about Grohl’s punk band, the writer and director of Salad Days, Scott Crawford, told Rolling Stone: “Mission Impossible were a phenomenal, albeit short-lived, live band.

“I went to several of their practices in Virginia and just sat back and watch them go nuts. They were all superb musicians and watching Dave behind the drum kit was always a thrill.”

Grohl’s bandmates in Mission Impossible included vocalist Chris Page, guitarist Bryant Mason and bassist Dave Smith. Grohl later went on to appear in Nirvana before later forming Foo Fighters.

Grohl recently collaborated with Beck and St. Vincent when the three performed a cover of Blondie’s ‘Rapture’ at a gala event in Los Angeles.

Grohl and Beck performed together at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art’s Eighth Annual Art + Film Gala, with the Foo Fighters drumming as his fellow musician sang his own tracks, including ‘Devil’s Haircut’, ‘Loser’, and ‘Where It’s At’. The pair also delivered a series of covers by artists like Led Zeppelin, Talking Heads, and Van Halen.

The event wasn’t the first time Grohl and Beck had performed together lately. Earlier this month (November 1), the musicians collaborated at an event encouraging attendees to vote in the US midterm elections, while, in September, they joined forces at another political fundraiser.

Meanwhile, Grohl has revealed the one band he still wants to play drums for. The former Nirvana drummer has worked with many big stars throughout his career, including The Melvins, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Tenacious D, Queens Of The Stone Age, and David Bowie. However, he said in a new interview there was still one to tick off his bucket list.

Earlier this year, the Foo Fighters man spoke out on how he believed the rise of artists like Marilyn Manson set the popularity of grunge in decline.

Salad Days: A Decade of Punk will be released on December 10.
