The festival also has a new location in 2019

Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds have been confirmed as the first headliners for ‘This is Tomorrow Festival’ in 2019.

The festival, which last year took place at Spillers Wharf, Newcastle, moves to a new location in 2019 and will take place at Exhibition Park on Newcastle’s Town Moor over next year’s May Bank Holiday weekend.

Gallagher will headline on Saturday May 25 with other bands being already confirmed to play including The Vaccines, Editors and Glasvegas.

Speaking about the announcement, SSD Concert’s Steve Davis said: “The people of the Newcastle and the North East are in for something truly special when This Is Tomorrow lands. It will be futuristic in its vibe and we have many special things planned.

“Last year we started the This is Tomorrow legacy but our long-term plan for the festival means we are always looking to push the boundaries to improve our overall offering and re-locating to Exhibition Park will be a truly fitting space for an event of this size and calibre. We can’t wait to see some truly iconic and legendary bands and artists coming to Newcastle and we are proud to be able to confirm Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds as our first headliner.”

He concluded: “Noel constantly smashes the boundaries of what’s possible musically, recreating himself with every album. He is a fitting addition to the festival and will blow the crowd away outdoors in the summer sun!”

Meanwhile, Gallagher recently revealed that he gave Bradley Cooper advice on how to be a rock star ahead of the actor’s role in A Star is Born.

He told Q Magazine: “He used to say to me, ‘I want to get it right.’ The hardest thing in the world is pretending to be a rock star.” Gallagher went on to add that he was impressed with Cooper’s acting skills in A Star is Born. He added: “For somebody who isn’t a singer or a guitar player he carries that shit fucking well.”

Gallagher went on to joke that Cooper had said there was “a bit of” him in character Jackson Maine – with one of Gallagher’s “moves” being in the film as he walks across the stage, bends both arms and claps twice. Gallagher added: “I was like, ‘That is me. That’s my patented fucking move!’”

Earlier this month, Gallagher released an official book titled, ‘Any Road Will Get Us There (If We Don’t Know Where We’re Going)’, which told the story behind the rocker’s biggest ever tour with his band High Flying Birds.

It also followed the story of the making of Gallagher’s latest album – 2017’s ‘Who Built the Moon?’ – with a series of stunning images by former Man City photographer Sharon Latham and words from Noel and his band mates

Tickets for Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds headlined show at This Is Tomorrow Festival are on sale Friday 23 November at 10am priced from £49 plus booking fee. You can buy tickets for the event here.
