The band confirmed their first live dates for 2019 last month

Foals will release their fifth album next year, it has been reported.

Information about the Oxford band’s follow-up to 2015’s ‘What Went Down‘ was revealed by Music Week as the group confirmed a new worldwide deal with Transgressive Publishing and Warner/Chappell Music.

According to the industry website, the new agreement covers both the band’s back catalogue and future releases, “including their fifth album, which is due out next year.”

“They’re without doubt one of the most forward-thinking and constantly innovating rock bands to have emerged in the past ten years,” said Warner/Chappell Music UK MD Mike Smith. “They never fail to release thrilling music and it is a huge privilege for Warner/Chappell to be able to work with their remarkable catalogue and future recordings.”

No further details about the record, including a release date or title, are available at present.

Foals’ Yannis Philippakis

The band confirmed they were back in the studio at the end of 2017 and said they had been writing songs since October. Speaking to NME ahead of entering the studio, Philippakis said: “I think the world is obviously affecting the way we feel as individuals.

“I definitely feel that when I’m writing lyrics or music, that it’s in dialogue with what’s going on around me in isolation – so I’m sure there will be things in the lyrics to do with, not just the political climate but also the environmental situation that’s happening now. I think that it will be there.”

Foals confirmed their first live dates for 2019 last month. The band were among the first names to be announced for German festivals Rock Am Ring and Rock Im Park, which take place next June.
