Björk’s dreamy 1990 film debut ‘The Juniper Tree’ to be re-released
 Add to favorites

Björk was just 24 when the film was originally released

The feature-film in which Icelandic star Björk made her on-screen debut is to get a re-release.

The Juniper Tree, which was directed by Nietzchka Keene and released in 1990, was based on a Brothers Grimm fairy tale of the same name. When Björk appeared in the movie, she was just 24-years-old and her appearance pre-dated her 1993 breakthrough album, ‘Debut’.

The film has now been restored to 4K resolution by the Centre for Film and Theatre Research in Wisconsin with funding from The Film Foundation and the George Lucas Family Foundation.

You can watch a trailer of the original movie here:

Earlier this year, Björk performed headline sets at All Points East and The Eden Project and received praise for her avant grade performance.

Reviewing her performance at The Eden Project, NME wrote: “Tonight, Björk found a spiritual home for her Utopia among the domes of Eden – though as the album and its entrancing live incarnation remind us, paradise is within reach for all, in our own imaginations.”

The Juniper Tree is set to be released in cinemas next spring ahead of an eventual digital release. The restoration re-release project will premiere at the AFI Fest on November 10.
