Previous instalments from the club included famous tracks by Nirvana, Sonic Youth and The White Stripes

Sub Pop has announced plans to release another instalment of its legendary mail order service, the Sub Pop Singles Club.

The service initially started in 1988 and and ran to 1993, sending subscribers exclusive music from the likes of Nirvana, Fugazi and Sonic Youth pressed to vinyl.

The second and third editions, running from from 1998-2002 and 2008-2009 respectively, featured tracks by such acts as The White Stripes , Jesus And Mary Chain, Iron And Wine, Bright Eyes and Thee Oh Sees.

Now a fourth installment has been announced, which will retail at $130 and will be shipped in April 2019.

Nirvana were one such band who featured in the Club back in the early ’90s

“Are you desperate to hear new and exciting music?” a new statement from Sub Pop read. “Do you pine for exquisitely packaged, coloured-vinyl artifacts? Do you break into a sweat at the thought of missing out on limited-edition tchotchkes to hold over your friends’ heads? Well, subscribe now and feed your need!”

At this stage, no information has been released about which tracks will feature on the new Singles Club release.

Sub Pop celebrated its 30th anniversary earlier this year. It was formed in 1988 by underground radio DJ Jonathan Poneman and fanzine editor Bruce Pavitt, who both quit their day jobs to dedicate themselves full-time to running their independent record label in Seattle.

It proved a major springboard for the likes of Nirvana, Soundgarden and Mudhoney in its infancy, as well as acts including The Shins in later years.

Last month, the surviving members of Nirvana performed at the Cal Jam festival.

Dave Grohl, Pat Smear and Krist Novoselic ran through six tracks, with Joan Jett and Deer Tick’s John McCauley also performing with the band. The same line-up performed back in 2014 after Nirvana’s induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
