A video of Bohemian Rhapsody star Rami Malek has gone viral after the star refused to “say hello” to the friends of the fan.

In the short video, the fan, known as ‘Xan’ on Twitter, starts filming in selfie mode and asks Malek “can you say hi to my friends?”

Malek, who plays Freddie Mercury in the Queen biopic, responds in the negative to the fan and says: “no, but we can take a picture, is that alright?” The video has garnered over 2 million views already.

I know Rami is super chill and nice with fans but after seeing this I’m terrified of him lmao pic.twitter.com/TFpYop1y0m

I’m sorry but he was hella rude the way he said no. He could of said it in a different way like “I’m sorry I can’t but I’ll take a picture with you” instead of just plain “no” with an attitude. Like he didn’t even care that honestly hurt

He could have said "hey guys", that's all. True, celebrities don't owe us anything, but they should be super appreciative of what they have, fans.

Malek has since responded via Vanity Fair, saying: “I finally brought myself to watch it. I thought, ‘Oh that’s not that bad.’ I don’t find myself offensive…I am happy to take photos with anyone. I just want to be aware of what people are doing in the moment. When someone films you automatically, it’s a bit intrusive.”

‘Xan’ immediately apologised to Malek in the video before the encounter abruptly ended.

In another Tweet responding to criticism, Xan wrote: “he literally said he was laughing about the experience and it wasn’t offensive at all. I apologised for being intrusive which i was incredibly in the wrong for but please don’t make this into something beyond me trying to meet someone I’ve admired for a long time…”

Meanwhile, Bohemian Rhapsody has knocked A Star Is Born off the top of the UK box office, after grossing an impressive £6.48 million in its opening weekend.

The film is also on course to become the highest grossing music biopic ever released in the UK – beating the likes of Eminem‘s 8 Mile and Johnny Cash movie Walk The Line which secured £13.3 million and £10.4 million respectively.
