The track was created as the theme for a new horror streaming service

John Carpenter has shared an unnerving new track called ‘Shudder’ – listen below.

Last month, the filmmaker and musician released the soundtrack for the new Halloween reboot. He directed and scored the original horror movie in 1978.

Now Carpenter has released the typically eerie, synth-based instrumental ‘Shudder’. The tension-inducing theme was created for the horror streaming service of the same name.

Two versions of the have been shared – one clocking in at almost two minutes, the other a dramatic five-second slice.

“We wanted to create a one-of-a-kind audio identity for Shudder and the first person we thought of was John Carpenter,” a press release reads.

“We approached John and to our delight, he was enthusiastic about the idea and came up with an iconic theme that will enchant and thrill Shudder members every time they hear it.”

Earlier this month, Carpenter toured the UK and Europe in support of the new Halloween soundtrack.

Asked by NME if he was getting a kick out of the live show, the musician replied: “Oh yeah, I’m enjoying the hell out of it, I’m having a great time. It’s still surprising to me. It’s just awesome.”

Speaking of the reworked score, Carpenter said: “We made it a bigger theme and brought new technology, new sounds into play, made it more modern.”
