Glastonbury’s Beat Hotel to launch new festival in Marrakech

The wide-ranging event will take place in March 2019

Glastonbury‘s Beat Hotel is set to launch a brand new festival in Marrakech in 2019.

The pop-up club – and its ‘Eat, Drink, Dance’ mantra – has been a Worthy Farm fixture since 2011, and it will branch out to a new continent next year ahead of the 2019 festival.

Billed as a “four-day residency with a cultural programme of music, food and creativity”, the Beat Hotel will locate itself at the Fellah Hotel – a 27-acre, palm tree-laden boutique resort. The move to Africa came about after the Beat Hotel’s organisers followed in the footsteps of the original beat poets and writers (who inspired the name of the hotel), who headed to Marrakech in the late ’50s and early ’60s in search of inspiration.

Set to take place between March 28-31, Beat Hotel Marrakech will host the likes of Young Fathers, Teleman, Maribou State and many more. Moroccan musical talent – including Master Musicians of Joujouka – will also be prevalent on the bill, while “one-off culinary collaborations and a talks programme featuring some of today’s great minds and voices” (such as Irvine Welsh and David Keenan) will also take place.

Tickets for the new event are on sale now, with prices starting at £119. You can find those and more information about the new festival here.

In other Glastonbury news, Biffy Clyro have thrown their hat in the ring by declaring that they will headline the festival in the near future – with frontman Simon Neil saying “it’s got to happen”.
