"I don't usually put my foot in my mouth. But this time, I did."

Adam Levine has apologised after he mistakenly criticised MTV for snubbing Childish Gambino at the Video Music Awards (VMAs).

The Maroon 5 singer hit out on Twitter last Friday, describing the rapper’s ‘This Is America’ video as “thought provoking and intelligent”.

Shit. I don’t usually put my foot in my mouth. But this time, I did. ‘This is America’ actually WAS nominated for 7 VMAs. How I didn’t get the right info is beyond me. I stand corrected. I’m sorry MTV. Still hate you though. but mostly, I’m sorry.

“I’m sure he doesn’t care that he wasn’t nominated for a VMA because he’s cool as f–k and everything. But I care. Because I’m NOT that cool”, he raged.

But there’s just one problem – it was announced last month that Glover had received a staggering seven VMA nominations for the video.

Now, Levine has realised that it’s time to eat some humble pie.

“Shit. I don’t usually put my foot in my mouth. But this time, I did. ‘This is America’ actually WAS nominated for 7 VMAs”,he admitted on Twitter.

“How I didn’t get the right info is beyond me. I stand corrected. I’m sorry MTV. Still hate you though. but mostly, I’m sorry.”

He also apologised in an Instagram video to fans, admitting that he “fucked up”.

“Alright, I f**ked up,” he said.

“I guess, for some reason, we Googled something and I looked … Look, I f**ked up, there’s no way around it. Basically [Childish Gambino] was nominated like seven times over and I look like a moron.

“But I’m just going to come out and say, ‘I f**ked up, my bad’. Sorry MTV, you did good. Now make sure he wins.”

Meanwhile, Maroon 5 were last year forced to address rumours that the title of their latest album is a reference to an alt-right movement.

The band’s sixth studio album, is called ‘Red Pill Blues‘. “Red pill” is associated with the men’s rights movement and a moment of “re-awakening” surrounding anti-feminist ideas.

In a new interview, guitarist James Valentine explained that the group were unaware of the term’s connotations.

“We didn’t really understand the whole men’s rights thing,” he told the Huffington Post, explaining they were referencing The Matrix.
