The band headlined the Chicago festival yesterday (August 4)

Vampire Weekend have finished their fourth album, according to frontman Ezra Koenig.

The band last released a record in 2013 with ‘Modern Vampires Of The City‘. They have recently returned to the stage with a series of intimate concerts in LA and an appearance at Japan’s Fuji Rock Festival, but have yet to share new music.

While performing at Chicago’s Lollapalooza Festival last night (August 4), Koenig shared with the audience an update on the long-awaited record. “I wanted to tell you that the album is done now,” he said. “I mean, we’re mastering it but it’s done. More on that to come – in the meantime, just enjoy the rest of your summer.”

Earlier this week, it was confirmed the New York band had left XL Recordings and signed a deal with Sony after months of rumours. A Sony financial statement also hinted that new music could be imminent after it listed the band’s fourth album as a “noteworthy project” for quarter three, which ends on September 30.

Despite Rostam Batmanglij having quit the band as a touring member, it has been confirmed that he will appear on the new record.

The band will return to the UK for the first time since performing at Reading & Leeds 2014 later this month when they headline End Of The Road Festival. The event takes place between August 30 and September 2. Visit here for more tickets and more information.

Meanwhile, Vampire Weekend recently covered Thin Lizzy’s ‘The Boys Are Back In Town’ with Danielle Haim at Fuji Rock.
