The band have also released a video to accompany the track

The Manic Street Preachers have released a new single from their latest album, ‘Resistance is Futile’.

‘People Give In’ is the opening track of their latest studio album – the thirteenth of their career – and is the sixth single to be released from the album this year.

A video to accompany the single has also been released, featuring highlights from their extensive 2018 tour which has seen the band tour throughout the UK, play Robert Smith’s Meltdown Festival and support Guns ‘N’ Roses on tour in Europe.

Speaking about ‘People Give In’, Nicky Wire described it as: “One of the most open lyrics I’ve ever written. I wouldn’t exactly call it a rallying cry, it’s more about the idea that at least 80% of life is just really mundane so why don’t we all just lower our expectations and try to get to the other side as painlessly as possible.”

He also added: “We’re all looking for universal panaceas all the time – if we expected a little less, we’d probably be happier. The chorus is “there is no theory of everything/no immaculate conception, no crime to forgive”. If you can’t do any good, do no harm – that’s my fucking motto!”

The release coincided with the fiftieth birthday of drummer Sean Moore, who received birthday messages from fans and musicians throughout the day.

Reviewing ‘Resistance Is Futile’, NME wrote: “The band who once told you to know your enemy now realise that the enemy is omnipresent, yet also invisible and unknowable. Still, the Manics are kicking against the pricks just as hard as ever.”

“In their existence alone they continue to fight the good fight – but the sheer scale, pop-pomp and balls on show here render their survival an absolute victory. Resistance may be futile, but the Manics continue to advance.”

The Manics will play Radio 2’s ‘Live in Hyde Park’ show in London on September 9 and the Absolute Radio tenth anniversary show at Shepherds Bush Empire on September 25.

The Manics remaining 2018 tour dates are: 17 August, RIZE FESTIVAL, Hyland Park, Chelmsford 18 August, BEAUTIFUL DAYS, Escot Park, Devon (headline) 9 September, RADIO 2 ‘LIVE IN HYDE PARK, Hyde Park, London 25 September, ABSOLUTE 10TH ANNIVERSARY, Shepherds Bush Empire, London
