Some fans still aren't happy with the Welsh legend

Tom Jones has apologised after last night’s planned concert at York Racecourse was cancelled at the last minute due to weather conditions.

He said: “So disappointed about York last night and so sorry for you all. But lightening is unpredictable, dangerous and causes havoc so better safe than talking about something tragic today. Hopefully see you soon, we are working on it.”

So disappointed about York last night and so sorry for you all. But lightening is unpredictable, dangerous and causes havoc so much better safe than talking about something tragic today. Hopefully see you soon, we are working on it.

The show was due to take place after Jones cancelled a number of earlier dates due to illness. His apology was met with a mixed response, with one fan tweeting: “Everybody knew the weather was bad but people travelled from all over to see you , why didn’t you come up in the morning. Disgrace…. I wouldn’t go to my back garden to see you now.”

How come a jockey got from London after the 4/45 race and was here to ride in the 7/30. Everybody knew the weather was bad but people travelled from all over to see you , why didn’t you come up in the morning. Disgrace…. I wouldn’t go to my back garden to see you now.

York Racecourse apologised via a released a statement saying that storms: “blocked the route of both helicopters and fixed wing aircraft between his London home and Yorkshire.”

“Customers in the general admission areas (County Stand, Grandstand & Paddock, and Clocktower Enclosure) are all eligible for a 50% refund of their admission”, more information and York Racecourse’s full statement can be found here.

Fans took to Twitter to voice their outrage immediately after the news yesterday. One user wrote: “Absolutely shocking! Waiting until the last race to announce that it’s been cancelled! Come all the way from Newcastle today on the train for this.”

Another pointed to the unpredictable weather: “It’s not even raining anymore!!! So many people have battled public transport after the earlier lightening strike debacle to get to York to see Tom. So disappointing”

Last year, Tom Jones spoke out about how the alleged abuse taking place in Hollywood exists in the music industry too, even for men.

Jones said: “Things have always happened in the music industry as well. There’s been people complaining about publicists and different things they’ve been expected to do to get a record contract, just like a film contract.”

“There were a few things like that. But you avoid it. You just walk out… But what’s tried on women is tried on men as well.”
