The exhibit - which presented items from the late artist's personal archives - will be digitally recreated in the autumn

The David Bowie is exhibit is set to be relaunched as an interactive VR and AR experience later this year.

The touring exhibit, which told the story of the late artist’s creative journey through over 300 items from his personal archives, finally closed this year after being hosted in 12 cities across six years. It debuted at London’s V&A back in 2013.

The purpose of the exhibit is set to live on, however, in the form of a new VR and AR experience which will initially launch on smartphones. Developed by Sony Music Entertainment (Japan) Inc. in collaboration with the David Bowie Archive, Planeta, and V&A, a “digital recreation of the exhibition” will soon be available for fans to peruse.

Set to launch in the autumn (with an updated version hitting all major VR platforms in Spring 2019), the digital version of David Bowie is will “add unprecedented depth and intimacy to the exhibition experience, allowing the viewer to engage with the work of one of the world’s most popular and influential artists as never before.”

The VR and AR experience will also allow fans to “step into” some of his costumes in order to try them on. More information about the new David Bowie is experience can be found here.

Last week, it was announced that a new Bowie documentary is in the works.
