The protest group staged the stunt during yesterday's match in Moscow, which saw France being crowned as world champions

Four members of Pussy Riot have been charged by Russian authorities following their pitch invasion during yesterday’s World Cup Final.

Dressed in police-style uniforms, the four members of the protest group managed to evade security and enter the field of play during the second half of yesterday’s match between France and Croatia, which saw France win 4-2.

Pussy Riot quickly claimed responsibility for the stunt online after the four protestors were escorted from the pitch by security, with the group saying that the invasion was done in protest against alleged human rights abuses in Russia.

The four members have now been charged with “violating the rules for spectators at sporting events and of wearing police uniforms illegally.” [via BBC News] Those charges carry maximum fines of 10,000 roubles (£121) and 1500 roubles (£18) respectively.

Yesterday’s protestors have been identified as Nika Nikulshina, Olga Kurachyova, Olga Pakhtusova and Pyotr Verzilov (the husband of Nadezhda Tolokonnikova, who was jailed in 2012 for her activism with Pussy Riot).

A statement posted on Pussy Riot’s social media feeds late last night claimed that the four had been denied access to a lawyer, while a further update on the status of the protestors was posted earlier today (July 16). See both of those below.

The police is still refusing to allow the layer to the pussy riot members who are still in their custody. Officer Subbotin came out and told the lawyer to "come tomorrow and file his complains". The guys are going to spend this night in the police station, most likely.

One of the protestors was confronted by Croatian defender Dejan Lovren during the pitch invasion.

Speaking about the incident, Lovren told reporters after the match: “I just lost my head and I grabbed the guy, and I wished I could throw him away from the stadium.”
