The Blur and Gorillaz man has shared his views on the team's form in the tournament so far

Damon Albarn has shared his views on England’s World Cup run ahead of their semi-final match today (July 11).

If the team beat Croatia later today, they will face off against France in the final this weekend (July 15).

Speaking to Matt Wilkinson on Beats 1, Albarn said he was relieved to be up against Croatia in the tournament’s penultimate round. “I’m really very happy that we’re not playing Russia,” he said. “I was really anxious about that.”

He continued: “I’m a massive football fan anyway and the World Cup is that thing that comes around very rarely, and for this to happen – that’s even more unique. For us to genuinely feel that we stand a good chance – I’ve never felt that feeling before.”

On the resurgence of football anthem ‘Three Lions’ and it being on course to top the charts this week, he added: “That’s not weird. People have really taken to that. I’m very pleased with everyone involved in that song.”

Albarn, who is currently on tour with Gorillaz after releasing new album ‘The Now Now‘ last month (June 29), recently revealed the “worst gig experience of his life.” Appearing on Radio X, he explained how a decision to remove his trousers and pants once ruined a Blur gig.

The musician also spoke out against Kanye West, accusing him of “trapping” Sir Paul McCartney in an “abusive” collaboration. The rapper and the Beatles legend worked together with Rihanna on single ‘FourFiveSeconds’.
