The Killers to play at King Tut’s after TRNSMT set

They last played the intimate Glasgow venue in 2004

The Killers will play an intimate set at Glasgow’s King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut following their headline show at TRNSMT festival on Sunday (July 8).

Tickets for the small venue, which NME described as “quite possibly the finest small venue in the world”, went on sale on Friday morning for fan club members and TRNSMT ticket holders on a first come first served basis.

The tickets sold out in just one minute with a spokesperson for the venue saying this was “the fastest selling show ever at Tut’s.”

As reported in The Daily Record, The Las Vegas band played the venue back in 2004, supporting Stellastarr.

I went to see Stellarstar at King Tuts. They were good. There support band were these unknowns called The Killers. They were rather fucking brilliant.

Speaking to The Daily Record, drummer Ronnie Vannucci Jr said: “We plan to play TRNSMT then right afterwards play King Tut’s.”

“I’m curious to see what that will do to my brain. I think it will bring back memories…We were going to open it up to the public but worried about announcing it on stage on Sunday because of the level of interest and the amount of people arriving. It might be a hazard.”

Looking back on his first time playing King Tut’s, Vannucci Jr added: “Back then playing King Tut’s in some ways we knew we would do well. But in some ways you still have doubts.”

“We’ve been damn lucky and Brandon feels the same we are very fortunate to be where we are and afford the lifestyle.”

Speaking recently about their longevity to NME, frontman Brandon Flowers said it was down to hard work and luck.

“It’s hard work. I’m not saying the other people are lazy, but it’s hard work and it’s a little bit of luck… or maybe a lot of luck and a lot of hard work.”

“When you join a band you imagine not having to show up to a 9 to 5 and not having to punch in and out, and that’s partially right but if you really want to do it, you have to get your hands dirty and work. The reason why I feel like there’s nothing dirty about it is that music has done so much for me. I want to repay the favour.”

Meanwhile, fans reacted excitedly to the news on social media.
