Will Young is selling both of his BRIT awards

Singer Will Young is selling his two BRIT awards.

Young won a BRIT for Best British Breakthrough Act in 2003 following his win on ITV’s Pop Idol in 2002, one of the first reality TV singing contests. Young also won another in 2005: Best Single for hit ‘Your Game.’

In an interview with The Sun, Young told the newspaper he is selling both of his awards, adding that he hopes he can raise £5000 for each for charity.

He said: “People think I am mad to get rid of my Brits but to me, they are just a reminder of a not very happy time in my life.”

Saying he would donate some of the profits to a Thai dogs home, he said he “would rather the money go to the dogs” before adding, “I am turning bad into good. That’s just the way I want to be.”

The singer had hinted at their sale previously in an interview with The Telegraph.

“Paul from S Club 7 sold his Brit for £60,000,” he told the newspaper. “Bloody brilliant. I want to sell my Brits and give the money to charity. If you’ve got kids and you need to pay your mortgage then sell your Brit. If someone else wants it, then brilliant.”

Late last year, the singer revealed in another interview with The Telegraph that his struggles with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) left him unable to leave the house.

Young described the illness as “horrific” and believes it was triggered when he was separated from his twin at birth and during his time at what he described as a “vicious” prep school.

The singer was also forced to pull out of Strictly Come Dancing through a reoccurrence of the illness.

He added: “With PTSD, sometimes it could be difficult for me to go to the coffee shop, or visit the bank — but I now know when to expect it…It’s just something I’ve learned to live with the best I can, and listen to my body.”

“I’ve got really good at looking after my nervous system — it’s been the making of me. Self-care is what everyone should aspire to.”
