The singer's manager spoke to put an end to the rumours

Childish Gambino’s manager Fam Udeorji has spoken out after increasing rumours that ‘This Is America’ was heavily influenced by another song.

His strong message came after allegations appeared on social media over the weekend that ‘This Is America’ sounded similar to ‘American Pharaoh’ by rapper Jase Harley.

However, Udeorji took to Twitter to issue a strong message against the claims.

“[T]he Internet is a place of no consequences…this song is 3 yrs old, and we have pro tools files to prove it.”

the Internet is a place of no consequences. I hate that Toronto Akademiks/every white blogger can say something as gospel and y'all take it. this song is 3 yrs old, and we have pro tools files to prove it. but fuck you and your moms, and your future fetuses. stay blessed.

Meanwhile, over on Instagram, rapper Harley spoke about the resemblance saying he was “humbled” his music was an influence.

“I feel extremely humbled to be recognized and labeled as one or the original inspirations for one of the most important pieces of music and visual art of our time.”

“I appreciate all the love and support! But PLEASE DON’T let this controversy dilute the message me and @childishgambino are trying to convey. We are speaking about injustices we’ve encountered and he’s helped to provide a platform for all our voices to be heard.”

He added: “Let’s not discredit him for that! The focus should be on affecting change in our communities and building equality. This is bigger than me and him and bigger than music. Let’s not lose focus.”

The news comes as Childish Gambino announces a huge show in London later this year.

The singer will play the O2 on November 4, making it his second London gig of the year after his headline slot at Gunnersbury Park’s Lovebox Festival next month.

Childish Gambino aka Donald Glover has not stopped of late, appearing in TV show Atlanta and the latest Star Wars spin-off Solo, as well as working on a new album – reportedly his last under the pseudonym.

The star also made a surprise appearance at Chance the Rapper’s open mic event recently, in one of the first performances of the track since its debut on Saturday Night Live.
