The 'Finders Keepers' star went ahead and played her Birmingham gig despite the injury

Hotly-tipped pop artist Mabel played a show last night in Birmingham, just hours after being run over by a car.

The artist – who teamed up with Not3 for ‘Fine Line’ earlier this year – got the all-clear from medics, and played the concert anyway despite her injury. She performed while sitting on a stool. Mabel played alongside Jaykae, Mist, Ms Banks, Sneakbo and Yungen at the Spotify event.

Thank you to everyone who came to watch me perform at the @SpotifyUK show in Birmingham tonight and BIGGUP all the artists on the line up! A car ran over my foot outside the venue earlier today ????, but I still gave it my all for you each and every one of you ????

Mabel – who is the daughter of Neneh Cherry and Massive Attack producer Cameron McVey – first emerged in 2015 with her debut single ‘Know Me Better’. Two years on, she scored a chart hit with ‘Finders Keepers,’ breaking into the Top Ten Singles Chart.

Earlier this year she supported former One Direction star Harry Styles on tour, and treated the huge tour slot as training for the future. “I want to be playing those places one day. I’m figuring out how to gas 20,000 people when they’re not there for you,” she told NME. “It makes me think, ‘One day when they are here for you, it’ll be a hell of a lot easier!’”

Mabel might’ve soldiered on and played a show with an injured foot, but she’s certainly not the first musician to adopt a ‘the show must go on’ mentality. Jessie J played several scheduled shows while seated in a custom throne way back in 2011 after breaking her foot, and more controversially, claimed that the injury gave her “a different respect now for people who don’t have legs.”

Meanwhile, Dave Grohl, who was forced to pull out of Foo Fighters’ Glastonbury headline show after breaking his leg in 2015, pranked fans in Sweden earlier this year by pretending to break his leg for a second time.
