The electro outfit also performed a stripped-back version of 'Get Out'

CHVRCHES have recorded a cover of Rihanna‘s ‘Stay’ – check it out below.

The Scottish synth-pop trio released their new album ‘Love Is Dead‘ last month. In a four-star review, NME said of the LP: “‘Love Is Dead’ manages to balance hopeful, utopian pop with a darker, gloomier undercurrent. Love may not be dead after all, but if you ask CHVRCHES, the onus is on all of us to try and keep it alive.”

In support of their third studio effort, the group have recorded a live session for the ‘Spotify Singles’ series in New York City. Stripping things back from their usual electronic sound, Lauren Mayberry and co. opted for piano and organic instrumentation on a re-work of lead single ‘Get Out’. For their cover, they offered up a stirring rendition of Rihanna’s 2013 ballad, ‘Stay’.

It’s not the first time the band have expressed their love for the pop star. In 2016, they performed the Calvin Harris-penned smash ‘This Is What You Came For‘ during an appearance in Radio 1’s Live Lounge.

Meanwhile, Lauren Mayberry recently spoke out about her response to a negative album review.

After calling the piece “bullshit”, the singer told NME: “The thing that annoyed me about is that it was you’re not reviewing the music, you’re reviewing what you think of me as a person and what you think of the things that I stand for and whether you think that’s superficial or not, whether it’s shallow or not.

“That’s fine if you wanna write about the music, but then don’t belittle the other things because you don’t like this record.”
