A Kurt Cobain exhibition at a Washington museum has been completely destroyed by a fire.

Pieces from the Nirvana frontman’s personal collection – including original artwork – were on show at the Aberdeen Armory.

The building in the frontman’s hometown dates back to 1922 and also featured exhibitions on the city’s history. The blaze broke out on Saturday (June 9) – you can see some footage below.

Aberdeen Fire Chief Tom Hubbard said: “This is a devastating loss for the city,” adding that there was a “massive destruction of a lot of historic items” from fire, smoke and water damage. It was also reported that no one was harmed in the blaze.

Former Nirvana bassist Krist Novoselić shared the footage of the fire on Twitter, writing: “This is terrible. Hope people are safe.”

Following the news of the fire, writer Ryland Spencer shared some images from the Kurt Cobain exhibition which you can see below.

Sad to hear about the fire at the Aberdeen Museum of History. Here are a couple pics of the Kurt Cobain Exhibit and one of the old Stewart Field (Aberdeen HS stadium) sign I took when I was down there last September. Horrible loss for the community.

Another piece of Cobain history was lost last month, after it was reported that Frances Bean Cobain’s ex won Cobain’s famous MTV Unplugged guitar in a divorce settlement.

Silva claimed that Frances gave him the guitar as a gift and that he had the instrument in his possession when she filed for divorce in March 2016.

Frances then filed documents in 2017, asking the judge to put pressure on Silva to return the guitar in the settlement. It was later revealed that Silva will get to keep the guitar in the final settlement.

Frances and Isaiah Silva got married back in June of 2014. The couple were together for five years and married for less than two when Frances filed for divorce.
