Demi Lovato apologises for controversial ‘sexual assault’ prank
 Add to favorites

Demi Lovato has apologised after she faced backlash for revealing a prank that she pulled on her bodyguard.

The controversy began when the 25-year-old singer started a fan Q&A on Twitter, and was asked to reveal the ‘funniest prank’ that she had ever pulled.

Detailing a prank on her bodyguard, the singer wrote in a since-deleted tweet: “I hired a lady of the night in Vegas and sent her to Max’s hotel room to surprise him.

“She walked into his room without permission and grabbed him in his ‘area’ and he freaked the fuck out hahahaha”.

But the response failed to amuse fans, with many likening the stunt to sexual assault.

Demi Lovato literally thought she would get away with hiring someone to sexually assault her friend as a "PRANK" by deleting this tweet but… pic.twitter.com/nFEm6r14TW

“I’m… not okay with this. Like, this is legitimately a shitty thing to do. That is sexual harassment on Demi’s part, and sexual assault on the the other woman’s part”, one fan wrote.

Another said: “I am a fan of Demi Lovato, but I am saddened by her actions that recently came to light. Sexual assault is nothing to joke about or take lightly. And just because she may be a victim herself, it doesn’t excuse her actions.”

As the controversy intensified, Lovato initially refused to back down , writing “I swear I could tweet something about craving jelly beans and it would offend someone.”

She also urged fans to listen to the lyrics of hit track ‘Warrior’, which directly tackles sexual abuse.

For all of those coming at me rn, listen to the lyrics of Warrior and maybe you’ll have more compassion for someone who made a simple mistake. Of all people I know about sexual abuse. You don’t have to educate me.

Lovato eventually offered a full apology, admitting she was “sorry if anyone was offended”.

So sorry if anyone was offended ????

Last year, Lovato tackled her own personal demons in documentary Simply Complicated, which followed the pop star on the making of her new album ‘Tell Me You Love Me’.
