Damon Albarn has given his opinion on ‘Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino’, after the sixth Arctic Monkeys record was released last month.

The verdict from the Blur frontman came as he appeared on Radio X to discuss new Gorillaz album ‘The Now Now’, which is produced by James Ford.

Ford also lent his production efforts to ‘Tranquility Base…’, prompting host Gordon Smart to ask Albarn’s opinion of the record.

“I’ve only listened to bits to it, but I think it’s very interesting”, Albarn admitted.

Praising Alex Turner, Albarn said: “I do think he’s a very talented chap. It annoys me to say that because I don’t like paying compliments to anyone, but it has to be said!”

And while ‘The Now Now’ is set for release later this month, Damon Albarn also revealed that a new record is in the offing from ‘The Good, The Bad & The Queen’.

The supergroup, which features Albarn, The Clash‘s Paul Simonon, The Verve‘s Simon Tong, and Fela Kuti drummer Tony Allen, have only released one album so far. Their self-titled debut was released in 2007.

He continued to give further updates on other music he has coming up.

“It’s been a really exciting time,” he said. “It’s been a fantastic year so far. I’ve been in South Africa, did an album with amazing artists and then did [Gorillaz‘s] ‘The Now Now’, and then The Good, The Bad & The Queen.
