Thom Yorke has performed Radiohead‘s alternative James Bond theme song ‘Spectre’ live for the first time. Check it out below.

The band were originally requested to record the lush and emotive piece for the 2015 James Bond film of the same name, however it was later rejected in favour of Sam Smith’s ‘Writing’s On The Wall’. Radiohead released it for free as a Christmas present for fans that December.

Now, Yorke has given the track its live debut during a solo show in Florence – stripping it right back to a much more sparse and chilling rendition.

“Last year we were asked to write a theme tune for the Bond movie Spectre. Yes we were,” the band told fans upon release. “It didn’t work out, but became something of our own, which we love very much.”

During a press conference the following month, Smith was asked how he felt when Yorke released Radiohead’s unofficial track, to which he replied “Thom Yorke?” before being informed by collaborator Jimmy Napes who Yorke is.

Smith also responded to questions about Radiohead, saying: “Yes, I was a little bit surprised. Not going to lie, but I haven’t listened to it personally because I did the [official] ‘Spectre’ theme song.”

Meanwhile, guitarist Ed O’Brien is also set to release a solo album, while Thom Yorke recently announcing a UK and European solo tour. Not only that, but Colin Greenwood recently lent bass duties to newcomer Tamino on the track ‘Indigo Night‘.
