George Clinton‘s band Parliament have released their first new album in 38 years – listen to ‘Medicaid Fraud Dogg’ below.

Clinton’s funk group last released a studio LP in 1980 with ‘Trombipulation’, but have now returned with brand new material.

Despite announcing his intention to retire from touring in 2019, it appears that Clinton and Parliament are still continuing to write and record music. ‘Medicaid Fraud Dogg’ is a lengthy record, clocking in at 23 tracks – including the previously-released single ‘I’m Gon Make U Sick of Me’, which features Scarface – and you can listen to it in full below via Spotify.

Asked recently why ‘Medicaid Fraud Dogg’ was only being released under the Parliament name – rather than with its twin band, Funkadelic – Clinton said: “Because the last album was Funkadelic ‘First Ya Gotta Shake The Gate’. It’s Parliament’s turn.”

Elaborating on his decision to retire from touring next year, Clinton said that the decision had been coming for “a long time”.

“Anyone who has been to the shows over the past couple of years has noticed that I’ve been out front less and less,” he said. “Truth be told, it’s never really been about me. It’s always been about the music and the band.

“That’s the real P-Funk legacy. They’ll still be funkin’ long after I stop.”
