Arctic Monkeys set new chart record with massive sales as ‘Tranquility Base Hotel + Casino’ tops UK album chart

Arctic Monkeys have claimed their sixth consecutive Number One with ‘Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino‘ in the UK album chart and set a chart record in the process.

The Sheffield group scored combined chart sales of 86,000 and the LP is the most popular album on all formats this week – physical, digital and streaming.

Shifting 24,500 albums on vinyl, the album is officially the fastest-selling vinyl record of the last 25 years, surpassing the 16,000 units Liam Gallagher recorded in the opening week of ‘As You Were’ in October 2017.

In addition to the regular black pressing, the album was available in clear, silver and gold formats, the latter exclusive to AM’s Sheffield pop-up shop.

Arctic Monkeys also outsold the rest of the Top 40 combined on the Official Vinyl Albums Chart this week.

‘Tranquility Base Hotel + Casino’ continues the band’s 100% record of Number One studio albums.

Their 2006 debut ‘Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not’, follow up ‘Favourite Worst Nightmare’, ‘Humbug’ (2009), ‘Suck It And See’ (2011), and ‘AM’ (2013) also debuted at the top of the UK album chart.

Including his two Number One albums as part of The Last Shadow Puppets, frontman Alex Turner also earns the eighth chart-topping album of his career.

Meanwhile, Turner recently revealed the sci-fi origins behind the artwork of the band’s new record.

“The album artwork started from a picture that I saw of someone in the art department of 2001: A Space Odyssey, building the set for the Hilton on the moon,” he explained.
