“It’s still heavy on my heart”: Ariana Grande opens up on Manchester Arena attack

Ariana Grande has opened up on the Manchester Arena attack for the first time.

Last year, 22 people were killed and hundreds were injured after a suicide attack in the foyer of Manchester Arena as fans left a concert by the singer.

Speaking to TIME Magazine for its Next Generation Leaders edition, Grande explained how the attack had affected both her and her music.

“The last thing I would ever want is for my fans to see something like that happen and think it won”, she explained.

“Music is supposed to be the safest thing in the world. I think that’s why it’s still so heavy on my heart every single day.

“I wish there was more that I could fix. You think with time it’ll become easier to talk about. Or you’ll make peace with it. But every day I wait for that peace to come and it’s still very painful.”

She also described the attack as “the absolute worst of humanity”.

Opening up on the One Love Manchester concert, Grande described it as an effort to show defiance and strength to fans in the wake of the tragedy.

“That’s why I did my best to react the way I did,” she added.

“The last thing I would ever want is for my fans to see something like that happen and think it won.”

Grande’s emotional interview comes a month after the release of ‘No Tears Left To Cry’, her first single released since the attack.

The video for the track referenced the attack, as it included a worker bee, the traditional sign of Manchester.
