Meek Mill played his first gig since his release from prison this weekend.

The rapper performed a surprise 20 minute set at Miami’s Rolling Loud festival on Saturday night (May 12).

You can watch footage from the set below.

The Philadelphia rapper – real name Robert Williams – was released from prison in April after the Supreme Court overruled Judge Genece Brinkley’s heavily criticised decision to sentence the rapper to at least two years in state prison in November 2017.

The sentence was for violating his probation related to gun and drug-related convictions in 2007. He was originally arrested for his involvement in a fight at St. Louis airport (the charges were later dropped), and for reckless driving in New York.

The rapper told the crowd: “It feels good to be back and free in front of the motherfucking people. Thank you to everybody that supported me. They tried to take my freedom. They tried to crush my dreams. But now we’re in Miami glowing the fuck up. Let’s get it!”

Mill followed with a set including hits ‘On The Regular’, ‘Issues’, ‘We Ball’ and ‘Dreams and Nightmares’.

DJ Khaled introduced the unbilled set, promising the crowd they were about to witness a “historic” moment.

He added: “Some people are chosen to go through storms, to overcome storms, to help other people in situations. Some people have dreams, some people have nightmares, some people just got to go through a lot of shit. But the key is to overcome. It’s about overcoming, moving forward, and representing love.”

Earlier this month, Meek Mill made his first public appearance at a Philadelphia 76ers’ basketball game against the Miami Heat in his home city of Philadelphia. Meek was flown in a private helicopter straight to the game by the team’s owner Michael Rubin. Kevin Hart was also at the game.

Earlier this week, Mill announced he and fellow rapper Drake had “moved past’ their beef and Mill appreciated Drake backing his release from prison.

In his first post prison interview, the Philly rapper said he “feels like a sacrifice for a better cause.”
