Frank Turner, Biffy Clyro, and Alt-J lead tributes to Frightened Rabbit frontman Scott Hutchinson
 Add to favorites

The music world has paid tribute to Frightened Rabbit singer Scott Hutchinson after his death was confirmed this afternoon (May 11).

Posting on Instagram, Frank Turner wrote: “What a shining, beautiful life. I remember Scott giving great Scottish hugs, cracking jokes, apologising for being drunk, always being kind. He lit up the sky with his voice, his songs, his heart, and I will forever be in awe of his genius. He was the kind of guy who, if he came up in conversation, people would talk over each other, in a hurry to say how wonderful he was. He was my friend and today I am heartbroken. Talk to someone, don’t try to keep it all inside.”

The 36-year-old musician was initially reported missing in the early hours of Wednesday (May 8) after CCTV footage showed him leaving Edinburgh’s Dakota Hotel at 1AM. Posting on Twitter shortly before his disappearance, he wrote: “Be so good to everyone you love. It’s not a given. I’m so annoyed that it’s not. I didn’t live by that standard and it kills me. Please, hug your loved ones.” His final tweet read: “I’m away now. Thanks.”

Paying tribute on Twitter, Alt-J wrote: “We are deeply saddened by the news of our labelmate Scott Hutchison, and our thoughts are with his family and friends at this time. In the UK, you can call the Samaritans on 116 123. In the US, the National Suicide Prevention Hotline is 1-800-273-8255. You are never alone.” Biffy Clyro wrote: “So so sad. So so sorry. All our love to the Hutchison family. Rest in peace Scott.”

Tributes have also come in from The National’s Aaron Dessner, Idlewild’s Roddy Woomble, Twin Atlantic, Snow Patrol and Glasvegas. The Cribs wrote: “Terribly sad to hear the news regarding Scott Hutchison. As mentioned before, we didn’t know each other personally – but there is always empathy and a bond between fellow touring musicians, especially contemporaries of a similar age group, so this hits particularly hard.”
