The 36-year-old musician was initially reported missing in the early hours of Wednesday, after CCTV footage showed him leaving Edinburgh’s Dakota Hotel at 1AM.

Posting on Twitter shortly before his disappearance, he wrote: ‘Be so good to everyone you love. It’s not a given. I’m so annoyed that it’s not. I didn’t live by that standard and it kills me. Please, hug your loved ones.’

“I’m away now. Thanks”, he added.

Mr Hutchison’s disappearance sparked a huge search, with the band issuing an appeal for his safe return.

“If you see this Scott, please call this confidential number (116 000) to talk to someone. We just want you to feel better and safe and fully understand if you need time to yourself right now. We are worried and we love you so so much”, the band wrote on Twitter yesterday evening.

Although the body is yet to be officially confirmed as Mr Hutchison, the news was described as the “saddest awakening ever” by DJ Edith Bowman.

“Can’t really believe I’m reading this. Saddest awakening ever. Love and best wishes to all the Hutchison and Frabbit family”, she wrote on Twitter.

Other leading tributes came from US comedian Sarah Silverman.
