Halsey has spoken out about her on-stage miscarriage and battle with endometriosis in an emotional new interview.

Endometriosis is a common condition involving the lining of the womb that affects women of childbearing age and which often causes severe pain. Halsey has always been open and frank in her struggles with the illness in a bid to inspire and advise other sufferers.

Last week, she appeared on a panel on US show The Doctors alongside Kate Bond, Nita Landry, M.D., and Thais Aliabadi M.D., to talk about the condition, and her experience of having a miscarriage on stage while performing.

“Before I could really figure out what that meant to me and what that meant for my future, for my career, for my life, for my relationship, the next thing I knew I was on stage miscarrying in the middle of my concert,” said Halsey.

“And the sensation of looking a couple hundred teenagers in the face while you’re bleeding through your clothes and still having to do the show, and realising in that moment that I never want to make that choice ever again of doing what I love or not being able to because of this disease.”

Having received surgery, she then went on to discuss her decision to have her eggs frozen.

“When I tell people that, they’re like, ‘You’re 23, why do you need to do that? Why do you need to freeze your eggs?’,” she continued. Doing ovarian reserve is important for me, because I’m fortunate enough to have that as an option, and I need to be aggressive about protecting my fertility [and] about protecting myself.”

Halsey added: “Taking these measures to make sure that I get to have a hopefully bright future and achieve the things that I want to achieve by doing the ovarian reserve is really important.

Last year saw Halsey release her acclaimed second album ‘Hopeless Fountain Kingdom‘ – and has become renowned for her outspoken stance on sexuality, gender and race. Read her powerful speech from this year’s Women’s March in full here.

Meanwhile, it has been confirmed that Sony Pictures have signed a deal with the singer to make a biopic based on Halsey’s life.

Not only is she set to star in the film, a source claims that the movie will be “the closest cousin to what they hope for here is a vehicle that does for her what 8 Mile did for Eminem”.
