Kanye West has called Parkland survivor Emma González his “hero” in a new Twitter post.

González is a student at Marjory Stoneman Douglas – the Parkland, Florida school that was the site of a mass shooting earlier this year. Since the shooting, González and her classmates have become internationally recognised activists, fighting for gun control in the US.

Last night (April 28), West posted a photo of the teenager taken at a CNN town hall meeting between Parkland survivors, local politicians, and NRA spokesperson Dana Loesch. “My hero Emma Gonzalez,” the rapper captioned the post.

He later posted another picture, this time of himself with a freshly shaved head. This time, he wrote: “Inspired by Emma.”

González appeared to respond indirectly to West’s praise of her by posting a photo of James Shaw Jr, the man who stopped a shooter at a Waffle House restaurant in Tennessee last weekend. “My hero James Shaw Jr,” she wrote, using the same spacing as West.

The rapper has been very active on Twitter since returning to the platform, but has caused controversy with some of his remarks, including saying that he “loves” Donald Trump, and posting photos of himself in a Make America Great Again hat.

Last night, meanwhile, Questlove was spotted wearing a t-shirt that read “Kanye West doesn’t care about black people”, flipping the rapper’s 2005 comments about then-President George W. Bush. The shirt is believed to be in response to West’s support of Trump.
