After calling Alex Turner a “fucking buffoon”, Fat White Family are holding an Arctic Monkeys ‘tribute’ gig

Fat White Family have announced details of a special Arctic Monkeys ‘tribute’ night – after having previously coming to blows.

Having slammed Monkeys frontman Alex Turner as a “fucking buffoon“, Fat White Family have never been shy of voicing their dislike of the band – who they share a record label with on Domino.

Now, to mark the release of Arctic Monkeys’ new album ‘Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino‘, Fat White Family will be hosting a seemingly tongue-in-cheek ‘tribute’ night at Shakespeare’s in their native Sheffield on May 11. The poster for the ‘Shartic Monkeys’ night comes complete with a photo mocking their early press shots taken outside The Boardwalk.

“We’re putting on a tribute night in Sheffield next month in honour of our label mates, local legends, the Arctic Monkeys,” said Fat White Family in a statement. “Although Alex Turner almost certainly wont be there he will be with us in spirit, body and song.”

“In celebration of the eagerly awaited release of their 6th studio album on 11.5.18 we shall be conducting a special evening of musical re-imaginings of Arctics classics AND album tracks. “

They added: “So if like us you can’t quite afford £70 a ticket, make your way down to Shakespeare’s for the next best thing.”

“Words are not enough to describe how much of a fucking buffoon I think that man [Turner] is,” Fat White Family frontman Lias Saoudi told NME in 2014, following his infamous ‘drop the mic’ BRIT Awards speech. ” I find it unbelievable that people think of him the way they do. The guy is clearly a moron. He was talking about the universe and cyclical natures and ‘invoice me for the microphone’.

“What are you talking about man? You’re a fucking millionaire. His latest record, I fucking hated it.”

He added: “I hate that little c**t, he’s a fucking joke. It was the least rock’n’roll thing I’ve ever seen in my fucking life. His speech was horrendously embarrassing. It made me sweat, like when you see something that really makes you cringe. Massive cock. Print that.”

Turner recently spoke out in an interview to defend his speech from the 2014 BRITs.

“I maintain that I didn’t really have another way around it,” said Turner. “Another way of justifying getting up in that room. What else was I supposed to do? To go up there and pretend that I’d been dreaming about that moment since I was a kid would have been dishonest.”

Elsewhere in the interview, it is revealed that Arctic Monkeys’ new album was almost an Alex Turner solo record. It has also emerged that the album will not be preceded by a single.

The band’s upcoming sixth album ‘Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino’ will be released on May 11.
