 Add to favorites

It looks like the wait is almost over as The 1975 seem set to release new material this week.

Fans have been speculating that the band may be getting ready to return with new music imminently, after they deleted months’ of posts from social media.

Yesterday (April 21) a fan tweeted a picture of a lightning bolt racing across a pink sunset sky that emulated the band’s neon artwork for their 2016 second album, ‘I Like It When You Sleep For You Are So Beautiful Yet So Unaware Of It’.

She tagged Jamie Oborne – the band’s manager, and founder of their label Dirty Hit – in the tweet, which said: ‘Evening, the iliwys era is still here’, and this morning he replied saying: ‘Yes for a few more days…’.

Frontman Matty Healy has maintained that their third album is set to drop in June, with manager Jamie Oborne telling followers last month that new music was coming “really soon”.

The band have spent much of the last year or so at work on their hotly-anticipated third album ‘Music For Cars’.

Explaining the title, Healy previously told NME: “‘Music For Cars’ was an EP named for our love for Brian Eno. We’re using it as the album title now because of how meta and self-referential everything has become in the world of The 1975, and ‘Music For Cars’ was always my favourite title of everything we’d ever done, so it kinda made sense to wrap it up that way.”

“If you look at third albums, ‘OK Computer’ or ‘The Queen Is Dead’, that’s what we need to do,” he said. “I want a legacy. I want people to look back and think our records were the most important pop records that a band put out in this decade.”

Having recently told fans to expect tour news in the summer, Oborne also revealed that the band’s first shows for their third record will be in the UK, and says they’ll be ‘the biggest live spectacle in the world’.
