Bon Jovi were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame last night (April 15) at a ceremony in Cleveland.

Radio host Howard Stern inducted the band into the annals of rock history while each member of the band shared lengthy speeches about their 35 year long history, reports Rolling Stone.

Bon Jovi reunited with their original line up at the event. Bassist Alec John Such left the band in 1993, while guitarist Richie Sambora departed in 2013. But the pair rejoined former bandmates Jon Bon Jovi, drummer Tico Torres and keyboardist David Bryan on stage once more.

Jon Bon Jovi began: “I’ve been writing this speech since I first strummed the broom and sang at the top of the stairs of my childhood home. Some days I write the thank you speech, other days, I write the fuck-you speech.”

“Whoever played in a garage dreams of being in a big rock band and I was no different. I began in my buddy’s basement and in the back yard. We played in the local talent show, came in second place, worked up to block dances and then the clubs where we got a glimpse of what we thought was the big time.”

After a full chronology of the history of the band, JBJ concluded: “‘it’s about time’, because time is the most precious commodity we have. I thank my lucky stars for the time that I have to spend with each one of you, Alec, Richie, Hugh, Tico, David, to you, to us, to all of you, tonight the band that agreed to do me a favour stands before you so I can say thank you for making this dream live on.”

In December, Jon Bon Jovi responded to the news of their induction and said the band were: “really pleased, obviously, relieved, humbled.”
