In Kesha‘s music video for ‘I Need A Woman to Love’ the musician doesn’t just celebrate LGBTQ marriage equality – she helps an actual real-life couple to get married.

Directed by her brother Lagan Sebert, the new video follows Kesha as she heads on a road trip to Las Vegas. Once there she officiates the wedding of same-sex couple Dani and Lindsay in an emotional and brightly coloured ceremony. The powerful visual is interspersed with interviews featuring both Kesha and the married couple.

‘I Need A Woman to Love’ appears on the ‘Universal Love’ EP. Featuring contributions from St Vincent, Bob Dylan, Bloc Party’s Kele Okereke, Death Cab for Cutie’s Ben Gibbard, and Valerie June, the release puts a new spin on classic love songs, flipping the original pronouns around, and swapping genders to highlight love between people of all sexualities.

‘I Need A Woman to Love’ is a reworking of ‘I Need a Man to Love’ by Big Brother and the Holding Company with Janis Joplin.

Kesha first met the couple Dani and Lindsay in 2015, when they watched her perform at a Pride event. Her performance was attended by anti LGBTQ protestors, and they both remember Kesha acknowledging their presence, but remaining defiant. “In here it’s all love,” she said.

Kesha officiated the wedding that appears in the video on a poignant date. March 26 marks the anniversary of the first same-sex marriage license issued in the United States.
