Jack White celebrates ‘Boarding House Reach’ release with intimate, last minute London pub show

Jack White played a tiny gig at a London pub this evening (March 28) to celebrate the release of new album ‘Boarding House Reach‘.

His third solo album was released on Friday (March 23). In a five-star review, NME said: “Jack White has finally lost the plot – and he sounds totally brilliant. On his third solo album he’s at last shaken off the bluesy shackles of the White Stripes and has created something wild, mysterious and unlike anything else around.”

White announced the intimate free show this morning. He took to the stage in the courtyard of the historic George Inn pub, near London Bridge, around 5pm. Opening with recent single ‘Over And Over And Over’, he aired material from the new record as well as his extensive back catalogue, including songs originally recorded by The White Stripes.

After ‘Corporation’, he told the crowd of his all-black outfit: “I snuck into a hotel where this Russian spy was sleeping last night and stole it from him.” The setlist also included ‘Fell In Love With A Girl’ and ‘Dead Leaves And The Dirty Ground’.

Despite recent reports of White banning phones at gigs, there was no such policy in action at the George Inn. Fans who managed to get into the small show were also able to sample an exclusive Jack White ‘Humoresque’ beer at the venue, with one pint given away free to every customer.

The star will play another gig in London tonight, with a previously announced show scheduled at The Garage. Tickets for that show have already sold out.

‘Boarding House Reach’ is Jack White’s third solo album to date and the follow-up to 2014’s ‘Lazaretto’.

White has made headlines recently by saying he doesn’t understand what DJ Khaled does, responding to the Jeremy Corbyn chant and doubting whether the White Stripes will ever reunite.
