Rod Stewart blasts Elton John’s ‘dishonest’ farewell tour

Rod Stewart has hit out at Elton John‘s plans for a forthcoming farewell tour, describing it as a “dishonest” attempt to sell tickets.

In January this year, the ‘Rocket Man’ icon announced plans for a massive three-year world tour, concluding with his final ever shows in 2021.

But despite the apparent significance of the tour, it seems that Maggie May rocker Rod is less than impressed.

Appearing on US chat show Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen, Rod said: “I did email her [Elton] and said, ‘What, again dear?'”.

“And I didn’t hear anything back!”

“If I retire, I won’t make an announcement. I’ll just fade away”, he added.

“I don’t think this is a big deal, it stinks of selling tickets.”

When fellow guest Cyndi Lauper described the tour as “not a bad idea”, Rod shot back: “It’s dishonest. It’s not rock and roll.”

Despite the apparent acrimony, he was more understanding when quizzed about Elton storming off stage earlier this month after a fan who had been invited on stage wouldn’t stop touching his piano.

“I don’t mind it. I love people coming up on stage. It’s a laugh. But I can see why he was p***ed off with it.”, he said.

““I’ve had people come on stage and nearly had me teeth knocked out!”

Describing the tour in January, Elton said: “I’m not Cher”, referencing the ‘Believe’ singer’s habit of returning to live work following supposed ‘farewell’ tours.

“This is the end.”
