Diplo says global pop has “a bleak future”
 Add to favorites

Diplo has remarked on the future of global pop, remarking that it has a “bleak future”.

The uber-producer has made the comment in a new interview with The Guardian. Remarking that “in 2018, you can make as many missteps as possible,” he says: “Nobody remembers the bad music you made. Justin Bieber is a good example: people just remember that he made a great album in Purpose.”

Elsewhere, he discusses the “bleak future” of global pop. “Every once in a while you have breakthroughs – Latin music’s having a moment,” he says. “But I can’t see it going further than that.”

Diplo continues: “I never want to ride the wave of the trends. I want to start them or mess them up.”

Diplo and Mark Ronson will team up to headline Bestival this year, bringing their new Silk City project to the Dorset festival.

The Rob da Bank-curated festival will return to Lulworth Estate for the second year running in 2018, with the festival promising to put on “the most colourful show on Earth” to mark its 15th anniversary.

It had already been announced that the likes of London Grammar, MIA, Jorja Smith and Grace Jones will play Bestival this year, with Diplo and Ronson’s Silk City now joining them.

The pair will headline the festival’s Friday night (August 3), what will be their European debut and a UK festival exclusive.
