Red Hot Chili Peppers‘ Josh Klinghoffer has covered Jeff Buckley during the band’s most recent festival headline set.

The guitarist joined the group in 2009 as replacement for John Frusciante. He had previously toured with the band since 2007.

Last weekend, the Chili Peppers headlined the Argentinian and Chilean legs of Lollapalooza. At the latter (March 17), Klinghoffer opened the encore by himself, taking to the stage to play a rendition of Jeff Buckley’s ‘Lover, You Should Have Come Over’.

The song’s appearance in the setlist marked the first time the band had performed it live. Watch it below, via Consequence Of Sound.

The rest of the set also saw the Chili Peppers cover The Stooges‘ ‘I Wanna Be Your Dog’. At the Argentinian festival the day before, they also covered Stevie Wonder‘s ‘Higher Ground’.

Earlier this year, bassist Flea spoke out about his battle with drug addiction in an attempt to warn others of the dangers of prescription drugs.

The bassist wrote a lengthy account for Time Magazine as part of their Opioid Diaries series to document the true gravity of the prescription drugs crisis in the US.

“I’ve been around substance abuse since the day I was born,” said Flea. “All the adults in my life regularly numbed themselves to ease their troubles, and alcohol or drugs were everywhere, always. I started smoking weed when I was eleven, and then proceeded to snort, shoot, pop, smoke, drop and dragon chase my way through my teens and twenties.”
