Former Joy Division and New Order bassist Peter Hook has covered The Fall‘s ‘Totally Wired’ in tribute to the late Mark E Smith. Check it out below.

Hook was in session with his band The Light for Marc Riley on BBC 6 Music when he honoured fellow Manchester punk veteran with a rendition of the 1980 classic.

“I just wanted to dedicate this last song to Mark E Smith,” said Hook. “He was absolutely unique at what he did. We banged heads many times, but I had great admiration for him. I had great respect for him as a musician.”

Hooky continued: “He was so hard-working. He believed completely in what he did. He was a true punk. He didn’t care what anybody else thought and I think he’s going to be very, very sadly missed.”

“He was not formally educated, he was not coming from a muso school – he was the opposite of that. He was a brilliant poet, probably one of the best.”

As well as speaking and performing at the Rock N’ Roll Book Club in Walthamstow tomorrow night before a string of summer festival appearances, Peter Hook & The Light will be heading out on tour later this year to play New Order’s ‘Technique’ and ‘Republic’ in full. Full dates are below and tickets are on sale here.
