Jack White made his live return last week, with a series of intimate shows at Third Man Records in Nashville.

The former White Stripes man previewed his new solo album ‘Boarding House Reach’, at the headquarters of his record label across two nights. While phones and recording devices were confiscated at the doors, fans managed to upload the setlists from two of the nights to Setlist.fm.

Night one, on March 15, saw White debut a number of ‘Boarding House Reach’ tracks, including ‘Over and Over and Over’, ‘Connected By Love’ and ‘Respect Commander’ and the previously-unheard ‘Ice Station Zebra’. They were joined by White Stripes cuts ‘Cannon’, ‘We’re Going To Be Friends’, and ‘Ball and Biscuit’, The Dead Weather’s ‘I Cut Like A Buffalo’, and The Raconteurs’ indie anthem ‘Steady, As She Goes’.

The following evening saw White perform White Stripes hits ‘Fell in Love With a Girl’, ‘Catch Hells Blues’, ‘Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground’, ‘Hello Operator’, and ‘Seven Nation Army’.

This week, White will play further tiny shows in Los Angeles, New York, and London. ‘Boarding House Reach‘ is out on 23 March via Third Man Records/XL Recordings, and will be White’s third solo LP.

It was recorded in New York City, Los Angeles and Nashville – it’s the first time White has recorded an album in NYC or LA, and features a brand new group of musicians.

Back in January, the singer announced his first UK shows in four years, headlining London’s Eventim Apollo on June 27 and 28. The dates sold out, but a new show on 26 June was added, which is on sale here.

White has banned phones from all of his gigs, ensuring that users keep them in a locked pouch throughout, to give an “100% human experience”. In 2014, he criticised people at gigs who spend more time on their mobile phones than watching the artist perform.

White suggested that he is “wasting time” performing for people who “can’t even clap” because they have a phone in one hand and a drink in the other.
