Dame Shirley Bassey has spoken out to deny claims that she is dead.

Concern about the music legend spread after Manfred Mann singer Mike D’Abo told the audience at a show in Cardiff in her native Wales that he had been informed that she had died.

However, she hadn’t. After an “audible gasp” from the audience, the news soon spread across social media – before a spokesperson for Bassey told Wales Online that the claims were “completely false”, “unfair” to fans – and that she was very much “alive and kicking”.

Bassey, 81, received the Nordoff Robins O2 Silver Clef Award for her lifelong commitment to music and outstanding achievements. Her last studio album was 2014’s ‘Hello Like Before’.

Earlier this year, former Big Brother star Rebekah Shelton also released a statement to deny her demise – after her Twitter account was hacked and her death was declared.

“I’m not dead, ” she wrote. “Please stop spreading this news! My lawyer is already working on this and this person who wants to spoil my happiness is going to pay for it!”
